OBITUARY
We celebrate the life of Yvette Finley who was born to the late John H. Finley, Sr., and Mary Ella Finley on August 17, 1958, in Westfield, Alabama.
Yvette was educated in the Jefferson County school system and graduated from Midfield High School in 1976. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Alabama A&M University in 1980.
She began her professional journey with the Alabama Education Association (AEA) where she faithfully served for 20 years. Throughout her career, she held various roles, including Liberty National Insurance Agent, Property Manager of St. Charles Villas, Customer Service Call Center Agent, Assistant Manager at Festival 18 and Wildwood Theatres, Call Center Customer Service Agent with AT&T, and positions with Publix and Ross stores. She was also known as a phenomenal and compassionate caregiver.
Yvette accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Wylam, Alabama, under the leadership of Reverend W. M. Williams. She later became a devoted member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Fairfield, Alabama, under Pastor David W. Craig where she served faithfully in the Women’s Ministry, Greeters Ministry, and other church ministries.
Affectionately known as “Vette,” she never met a stranger. She loved being surrounded by family and friends and gave freely of herself. She was an avid sports fan who proudly supported the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs. A wonderful cook, she delighted in feeding others and bringing people together. Her joyful spirit, kindness, and encouraging words uplifted all who knew her.
The Lord called her home on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 7:45 AM.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Grady Finley and John H. Finley Jr.; and sisters, Mildred Pearce, Justine Threats, and Rosetta Finley.
Yvette leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Ryan Finley of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Mary Jordan; brothers, Richard Finley (Minnie) and Ronald Finley (Janice); sister-in-law, Eleanor Finley; two uncles, Woodrow Johnson and Lemuel Johnson; one aunt, Marguerite King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
