Winifred J
Bagley
October 28, 1933 – May 16, 2023
Surrounded by ALL of her children and grandchildren, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, "Mother," as we all called her, went to her Heavenly home.
On October 28, 1933, God blessed George Howard and Croyzell Wilson with a jewel named Winifred Jo. She was one of two children; her brother, George Howard Wilson, Jr., died at the tender age of 14.
She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the 49th Street Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend T.W. Parker, and was instrumental to the transition of the new church, Parker Memorial Baptist Church. She became the organist at the age of 16 and faithfully served for over 50 years. She later joined First Baptist Church, Kingston, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend T.N. Miller.
She was a graduate of A.H. Parker High School and attended Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University where she received her bachelor's degree. She became an educator in the Birmingham City Schools system, as well as the private sector schools.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Nathaniel Bagley, Sr., and to that union, seven children were born. Nathaniel Bagley, Jr. (Regina), Natalyn Jo Carter (Jake), Melodie Shawn Hayes (Ronald), Judieth Bagley of Bossier City, Louisiana, Adrian, Robin, and Jeffrey Bagley. She was blessed with her grandchildren, Takisha Bagley, whom she tenderly raised as her own daughter, Michael Cook, Jr. (Minnie), Adrienne Broadnax, Sharmien Mason (Anthony), April Powell of Ohio, Eriann Talton, Deogory Harris II and Brittney Swift (Phillip), both of Bossier City, Louisiana, Joshua Wallace of Maryland, Sharonne Hayes of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ashton Bagley, and Taylor Bagley; twenty great-grandchildren; twelve great- great-grandchildren; uncle, John T. Wilson; sister-in-law, Juanita Twyman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; best friend, Evelyn Sanders; and a host of cousins, other family, friends, and neighbors who also referred to her as "Mother." Special thanks to her faithful caregivers, Melodie Shawn Hayes, Robin Bagley, Takisha Bagley, Sharmien Mason, Nathaniel Bagley, Dr. Bart Combs, PCP, hospice physician Dr. Keith Swetz, the awesome team at ExpectCare,, Ray McGill, Darlene Dowdy, Ginny Jarrell, Alemma James, Ashley Nepean, Baylor Weldy, Holly Garren, and Chaplain Fred Jemison.
