Obituary

On August 10, 1986 Mr. Leander and Mrs. Gladys McCurdy, Sr., were Blessed with the birth of and
William James McCurdy. He took the names of both of his Grandfathers, Mr. Willie James Harris and Mr. James McCurdy. William accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Peace Baptist Church, Mulga, Alabama.
Williams was educated in the Birmingham Public School System, attending Magnet Schools; Epic Elementary School and Huffman Middle School. He also attended George Washington Carver High School. He played Bass and Trumpet at Huffman and Carver High School. William's first love was music and he has enjoyed learning under the instructions of Dr. Frank E. Adams, Mr. Tolton Rosser, Mr. Arthur Means, Mrs. Dythia Means, Mr. James Crumb, Mr. Johnathan Callins and other professional music instructors. William was also a member of the Birmingham Youth Jazz Ensemble under the directions of Mr. Johnathan Callins, the Mighty Marching Rams the Tennessee State University Aristocrat of Bands. He was also a faithful member of the Jazz Band, "Be Sharp, But Natural."

William loved his family dearly and was a friend to all he met. His loyalty, his contagiously affectionate smile and hard work ethic made him unforgettable. He possessed a passion for cooking and was employed as a chef at the Full Moon Barbecue of Fultondale for several years.
Williams James McCurdy was called home to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, February 07, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Latricia Jamese McCurdy.

William leaves a legacy of loving memories to his son Devon Izaiah Jackson McCurdy, a devoted fiancée, Ms. Shlela Jackson, his loving and nurturing parents, Leander McCurdy, Sr., and Gladys McCurdy, brother and best friend, Leander McCurdy, Jr., nephew, Elijah Hosea Diaz, grandmother, Mrs. Annie R. Harris of Pushmataha, Alabama, aunts: Felicia McCurdy, Shyvonne McCurdy, of Birmingham, AL, Janice Robinson(Gary), of Montgomery, AL, Mildred Salery, of California, Judith Ruffin, of Pushmataha, AL, Claree Pennington and Myra Harris, of Greenville, Florida, uncles, Thomas E. Harris, of Oakland, California, Bobby Harris, Ulysees Harris (JoAnn) of Greenville, Florida and Johnny Harris, of New Jersey, a host of cousins, relatives, co-workers and bandmates, all of whom he considered dear friends.
We will miss him dearly may he rest peacefully in the loving arms of God forever and always.
