Dr. William Perry Cason, 90 years old, died at his home in Birmingham, Alabama
on June 1, 2022. He was born in Pelham, Georgia on June 12, 1931, to the late Will and
Mary Cason. Dr. Cason served the community of Birmingham, Alabama as a licensed
board-certified radiologist. He was affiliated with Cooper Green Hospital and Princeton
Baptist Medical Center, both of Birmingham Alabama, prior to his retirement.
Dr. Cason was educated in the public schools of Pelham, Georgia and northern
Florida. He attended Howard University, Washington, D. C. after his graduation from
high school. While attending Howard University, Dr. Cason was initiated through Beta
Chapter into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in 1954. After his graduation from Howard
University, he enrolled in McHarry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee and
graduated in 1961.
Dr. Cason then began his military career in the United States Army where he
continued his medical training. He was an intern, Internal Medicine at Letterman Army
Medical Center from 1961-1962. He was a resident, Internal Medicine, at the William
Beaumont Army Medical Center from 1962-1964. He was a resident, Radiology-
Diagnostic, at the National Capital Consortium from 1966-1969. He was also affiliated
with the United States Army Hospital at Bad Cannstatt near Stuttgart, Germany in the
early 1980s and subsequently with Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington,
D.C. He retired from the United States Army as a Colonel and moved to Birmingham,
Alabama in 1980.
Dr. Cason became an active member of the Birmingham medical community. He
was a member of the American Board of Radiology, and he published several articles in
medical publications and presentations throughout his career. Dr. Cason also loved the
game of golf, and he was an excellent golfer, scoring three holes in one and winning a
number of National Medical Association tournament championships.
He is survived by his son, Alan Cason (Kim); his granddaughter, Shannon
Cason, and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Alyce Melton, his sister,
Ruby Jewel Ayres, and his brother, Tiney Cason. Dr. Cason's final resting place will be
Pelham, Georgia.
