Mr. Walter Sonny Jackson, Jr., was born July 4, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama to Mr. Walter Jackson, Sr. and Mrs. Ella Moore Jackson. He accepted Christ at an early age at Our Lady Queen of the Universe and later became a member of The Cathedral of Saint Paul.

Sonny was educated in Birmingham City Schools and graduated in 1949 from the historic A. H. Parker High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued his education, a Bachelor's degree from Alabama A&M University, followed by a Master's degree and Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

For over 20 years, Sonny dedicated his life to education as a teacher and assistant principal, leaving a lasting impact on multiple generations of students.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Celester Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Mary Jackson Watson; aunt, Ida B. Seamon; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
