was born on July 10, 1935, to Professor Murry
Dewitt Merriwether (an elementary school principal and college math professor)
and Mrs. Uleda Mae Wouldridge (an elementary school teacher). Both parents were
educators in Jackson, TN. She was their only child.
After graduating from Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, NC, Uleda obtained
degrees from Lane College in Jackson, TN, and two graduate degrees from Teacher's
College, Columbia University in New York City. She was also a member of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority.
She was born into a religious family (grandfather, the Rev. A.D. Merriwether and
uncle, the Rev. M.C. Merriwether). At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord
and Savior, and was baptized at St. Paul's Christian Methodist Episcopal Church,
in Jackson, TN.
Uleda was a devoted wife to Peter D. Goldman, Sr. They had two sons, Peter, Jr., and
Paul. Uleda and her husband's hobby was travelling. They toured over 20 countries.
Uleda worked full and part time in several colleges and universities around
Alabama and Tennessee. However, her focus was Business Technology at Lawson
State Community College, where she was best known for her Learning Packages,
created specifically to help adult students in the department to learn to operate
the computer on their own. On behalf of Lawson State Community College,
Mrs. Goldman received the ACBSP Award, for full accreditation of the Business
Technologies Department. ACBSP is the National Association of Collegiate
Business Schools and Programs.
She leaves behind two sons, Peter D. Goldman, Jr., (Valerie) and Paul Goldman; four
granddaughters, Jasmine, Camille, Sarah and Mary; a very special neighbor and
friend, Betty Mason; and a host of other family and friends.
