Tony Marvel Murphy was born June 23, 1965, in
Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Paul B. Murphy and
Bernice Boone Murphy. He was the fourth of four children.
"Tony-Man", as he was fondly known, was an affectionate
child with a sometimes mischievous, but always charming
and delightful, smile, captivating all who met him. As the
baby of the family, he was the apple of his parent's eye, and
of his sisters' and brother's.
Tony never let his disability get in his way because he did
not view himself as different. Likewise, his parents never
shielded him away from the public. He attended church
with his father. He went to the Kimmons-Murphy family
reunions. Tony attended Elyton School from preschool
until his 18th birthday. After the completion of school,
he continued to live happily at home with his parents,
and after their death, with his sister Bernadine. Make no
mistake about it, Tony ran the household. At home, Tony
could be found listening to the radio and television full
blast and finding enjoyment out of it. On Saturdays, he
had pancakes for breakfast because that is what he always
wanted, and he had no hesitation telling Bernadine when
he wanted chicken and dressing for Sunday dinner. Tony
was so, so loved by his family. He was their sunshine.
On Thursday, February 15, 2018, God wrote the final
chapter of his life and reclaimed His precious child. "Blessed
are the pure in heart for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8.
Tony was of pure heart. He never hurt or harmed anyone.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: two sisters,
Bernadine Houston and Patricia Murphy; a brother, Carl
Murphy; nephews, Denzel Furniss, Christopher Houston
and his wife Mary, James Houston and his fiancée Krystle;
nieces, Carla Murphy, Tenisha Grimmett, and Tenika
Grimett; and a host of relatives and friends
