Obituary

Sterling Fields, Sr. was born in New Orleans, LA and along with 4 brothers moved
to Birmingham, AL.
He confessed to Christ at an early age and joined Forty-Fifth Baptist Church where
he remained a member throughout his life and served on the Men's Usher Board.
Sterling spent his early adult life in the United States Armed Servies as a Military
Policemen and working at Clow Pipe Shope, rising to the position of Forman.
Once Clow closed, he found the job he loved, working as a Painter for the
Birmingham Housing Authority. He lived in the East Birmingham Community
where he served as the Neighborhood President, assisting all his fellow neighbors
with any issues they had and keeping the neighborhood safe as well as hosting
the Neighborhood Fun Day in the Park bringing everyone together. Upon
retirement, he worked with Mayor Bernard Kincaid's Administration cleaning up
the East Birmingham Area.
He was preceded in death by his Elders -Louella Benjamin, Clenda Mae Benjamin
Fuller; Sarah Finch, and Zora Lee Humphrey; Brothers – Andrew Fields, Sr., Sidney
Fields, James Lee (Gabby) Fields, and Emanuel Jones; Wife – Margaret Fields and
Kathleen Fields; Son- Sterling Demetris Hutchinson; Daughter-Sonja Echols; Niece-
Saketha (keke)Jones; Grandchildren- Ashley Fields and Marcus Fields; Son-N-Law -
Joe Patterson.
He leaves to cherish his memory – Daughters -Zora (Andrew) Harris, Anita (Edgar)
Fields, Pamela Olver, and Kathy Patterson and Sons-Sterling Fields, Jr. and Marion
Oliver; Grandchildren – Aaron Fields, LaDre Fields, Angel Jackson, Jessika Fields,
Erika Howard, Karmen Fields, LaDarius Bender and Tavarius Hutchinson, Aleecia
and Tamesha Wilkinson, Martavious Hutchinson, Sterling Hutchinson, Jr., Lydia
Avant and Sterling Hutchinson, Jr., LaShunda (Cornelius) Smith, Michael Oliver,
Garrett Morton, Kevin Buchanan, Keith Buchanan; Sister-N-Laws- Pearlie Fields
and Chrystal Jones; Nephews: Andrew Fields, Jr., Robert Patterson; Nieces- Cledna
Fields Lewis, Pearlie Fields Williams, and Natasha Jones, Angela Blanding; Special
Cousins- Jacquelyn Benjamin and Vanessa Benjamin Armstrong and a host of
great-grandchildren, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
