Sophronia
Bailey
April 29, 1922 – September 10, 2022
Mrs. Sophronia Bailey was born in Acmar,
Alabama, to Mrs. Bertha Underwood and Robert Butler.
She began her walk with Jesus at an early age and continued
to be true to her faith until her last breath in this life. She was
educated in the local school system in Alabama. She met and
married Earl Bailey in 1940. After her move to Birmingham,
Alabama, she joined Christian Valley Baptist Church under
the leadership of Reverend Robert McAdory. After 25 years
of attendance and service at Christian Valley, she was led to
Word of Life Christian Center under Pastor Scott Webb. Then
after another 25 years of faithful attendance at Word of Life,
she was led to The Guiding Light Church under Bishop Jim
Lowe. She remained a member there until she departed this
life and made the transition to the glorious reality of Heaven
with her Savior Jesus Christ.
She was a sweet and kind soul who was a pinnacle in the
community of L&N City where she was a resident for over 60
years. She loved children and assisted in the raising of all nine
of her grandchildren in her very home. She was known for her
love of family, gardening, and dogs.
She was preceded in death by three siblings, William
Underwood, Eleanor Underwood, and Francis Wilson, and
her son Earl Bailey.
She leaves to cherish: her four children, Patricia Jenkins
(the late Jesse Jenkins, Sr.), Addie Duke (former spouse,
Robert), Angela Pompey (the late Leopold Pompey, Jr.), and
James Bailey; nine grandchildren, Jesse Jenkins, Jr. (Tish),
Eric Jenkins (Colada), Erica Perkins (Perry), Jerica Jenkins,
Robert Duke, Jr. (Tonya), Fernando Duke (Michelle), Derrick
Duke (Timeka), Venica Pompey, and Nichole Pompey; and
seventeen great-grandchildren, Malik, Eian, Enzo, Cali, and
Emir Jenkins, Cameron and Corey Perkins, Amia, LaKia,
Derrick Jr., DeAirion, Skyler, Donato, and Jason Duke,
Remington, Mackensington, and Jefferson.
