Sister Jacqueline
Cox
September 24, 1948 – December 1, 2022
Sister Jacqueline Cox was born on September 24, 1948, to the late Robert and Mary Smith. Sister Cox was one of eight siblings, two of which proceeded her in death.
Sister Cox was educated in the Birmingham school system and graduated from G.W. Carver High School. After graduation, Sister Cox moved to San Diego, California, where she finished her education as an electronic technician.
Sister Jacqueline Cox was baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost at North Park Apostolic Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Joel Trout. She was an active member and supporter of the church.
While in California, she met and married the love of her life, William A. Cox. She worked many years at Action Instruments, until she returned home to care for her parents. Upon returning to Birmingham, Alabama, Sister Cox joined the A.O.H. Cathedral under the leadership of the late Bishop Jasper Roby. She later moved to the Cathedral of the Cross under the leadership of the late Bishop G.W. Ayers. She served faithfully as an usher and on the hospitality committee. Sister Cox loved Sunday School classes and church service. While caring for her parents, she realized her true calling was in healthcare and decided to make a career change. For the next fifteen years, she worked as a healthcare aid, providing the patients she served with the dignity, respect, and love they truly deserved. She also volunteered her time with the Discovery Club, teaching and shaping the minds of our young people. Sister Cox also devoted time at the Christian Academy and Erwin Middle School, teaching them about the goodness of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Sister Jacqueline Cox loved her family and friends and did whatever it took to show her love and support for everyone.
She leaves a loving, caring, and devoted husband, William A. Cox; daughter, Stephanie Hillard; son, Troy Cox (Claire); seven grandchildren, Raymond Hillard, Jr. (Jasmaine), Timothy Hillard, Brandon Cox, Jathon Irving, Malik Lawson, Jaden Irving, and Jordyn Cox; great-grandchildren, Jayvon Bracey and Camren Hillard; siblings, Edmond (Juette Smith), Diane (Lorenzo Edwards), Gwendolyn Edwards, Lorenzo Smith, and Lucinda Willingham (James); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
