Obituary

Sarah Louise Parker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully

transitioned on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at her home in the loving embrace of her family.

Born on March 13, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Ernest and Martha Rogers, Sarah was the youngest of two children and a beacon of love and grace throughout her life.

From an early age, Sarah embraced her faith, joining the Missionary Baptist Church and later becoming a cherished member of Greater Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Lathem Donald Sr. She continued her spiritual journey with Wayside Baptist Church, where her faith flourished.

A proud graduate of Ullman High School's Class of 1961, Sarah pursued her passion for business at Booker T. Washington Business College, earning her certificate. She began her career at Fisk University in Tennessee before moving to Chicago to work at DePaul University. In 1968, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, to reunite with her teenage love, Alex Parker. On May 14, 1971, Sarah and Alex were united in marriage, sharing over 50 beautiful years together and raising two beloved children.

Sarah's professional journey continued at Traffic Cout, which later became the 36th District Court in Detroit. She retired in 2002 after 28 years of dedicated service. Retirement allowed her to focus on her true passions: family, decorating, collecting clowns and Annie Lee figurines, and, most notably, shopping.

Sarah's life was filled with joy, especially when spending time with her children, granddaughter Alexandria, and great-grandchildren Isaiah, Emmitt, and Serenity. Her love extended to her loyal companion, Frisco, a retirement gift who became her best friend.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Parker, and her brother, James Rogers Sr.

She is survived by her children, Dominic (Crystal) and Dee-Dee (S. Borders); granddaughter Alexandria; and three great-grandchildren; Isaiah, Emmitt, and Serenity. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, including her cherished friends Patricia Blevins and Julia Collins, whose love and care were invaluable. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the love and support extended to Sarah during her life. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
