Rose Marie Womack Coleman was born December 14, 1936 in Greenville, Alabama to Nolan and Bessie Womack.
Mrs. Coleman was educated in the Birmingham City Schools and graduated from Ullman High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Tuskegee Institute. She also received a Masters degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. She did further studies at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey.
Mrs. Colman spent 40 years educating young minds in the Newark, New Jersey school system. She also served as teacher mentor, evening tutorial teacher, and summer school teacher. After retirement she spent six years mentoring new teachers.
Mrs. Coleman was a member of Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church while residing in New Jersey.
Upon returning back to Birmingham, Alabama, she was actively involved in the Tuskegee Alumni Chapter as well as various activities with past graduates of Ullman High School. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima. She volunteered teaching for six years at the church school. She was also a member of the Oblates of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and a CCD teacher as well at Our Lady of Fatima School.
Mrs. Coleman was a world traveler. She has traveled all over the United States as well as Africa and Europe. Some of her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Spain, Israel, and Greece. She enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and having long talks, usually about the Bible, politics, education, and sports. She loved her family, friends and Tuskegee University. She was a firm believer in education. She willingly gave to many charities and organizations in the United States and around the world.
Mrs. Coleman was reunited in eternity with her husband Chester Coleman, Sr., son, Chester Coleman, Jr.; her parents Nolan and Bessie Womack; sisters Dorothy Sommerville, Ludie Young, and one brother, Nolan Womack, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son Bruce Womack, Birmingham, Alabama, and one grandson Terrell Womack, New York, New York ;One sister Gwendolyn Womack Walls, Birmingham, Alabama and one sister-in-law Mrs. Loretta Womack, Newark, Ohio. Nephew and nieces Cedric Young, Atlanta, Georgia, Jacqueline Sommerville, Helena, Alabama, Andra Walls, Birmingham, Alabama, Levetta Womack, Newark, Ohio, and Nolita Womack, Newark, Ohio. Great nieces, Joy (Anthony) Burrell, Birmingham, Alabama, Lauren Osborne, Greenville, South Carolina, Angel Walls, Birmingham, Alabama, Andrea Walls, Birmingham Alabama, one great nephew Joseph Walls, Birmingham, Alabama. Best friends, Mrs. Genave Burkes, Mrs. Brenda Bruer, Mrs. Annie Bryant, and Mr. Douglass Moorer. A host of other relatives and dear friends.
