Rosa L
Thompkins
August 26, 2020
Affectionately known as "Ninni", Rosa was born February 28, 1941, to the late Grover and Ella Nichelson. Rosa confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age while a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She later joined her current church home, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, remaining a faithful member from 1964 until her passing. During her tenure she served in numerous positions, most notably as youth director. Rosa was educated in the Birmingham School System and was a graduate of Ullman High School. She was employed by Birmingham Stove & Range Company and Pemco Aeroplex, where she befriended many and spoke shamelessly of her faith in God. Rosa was born the eldest daughter of ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvie Thompkins; brother, Harvey Nichelson; son, Ivan Woodard; and sisters, Ozola Charles, Sylvia Nettles, and Eloise Mumford. Rosa answered her Master's call as she slept on August 26, 2020. She leaves behind: sons, Otis David Woodard III and Phillip Woodard (Tracey); daughter, Mamita Woodard; special daughters, Deborah Woodard, Gerita Grooms, and Andrea Townsend; sisters, Grover Burrell, Leola Davis, and Mattie Nichelson; brothers, Mark and Micheal Nichelson; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family. Graveside service will be held Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Elmwood Cemetery
