Burroughs
January 29, 1944 – May 25, 2022
Robert Charles Burroughs was born on January 29, 1944, to the late Louie Allen and Ruth Burroughs.
Robert grew up in the Collegeville community of Birmingham, Al along with his four siblings (Roselyn
"Rose", Louie "Sonny", Alfredia, and William" Bernard"). He received Christ at an early age under the
guidance of his parents as a member of Trinity C.M.E. church, attended Hudson Elementary School, and
was a graduate of A.H. Parker High School.
After graduating, Robert joined the United States Army and served as a Medic while stationed in
Vietnam. After leaving the military, he moved to Gary, Indiana, and continued in civil service as an
employee of the United States Postal Service where he retired as a Mail handler after more than 25
years of service.
After retirement, Robert returned to Birmingham to be with family and friends and continued to serve
his community by supporting several charities. Robert was witty, caring, loving, kind, and giving… He
enjoyed cooking, dressing well, listening to Jazz and Blues, a cocktail, and a good cigar.
Although Robert never married or had children, he leaves to cherish his memories through Alfredia
Gholston (sister), William B (Jean) Burroughs, Kenneth Gholston (nephew), and a host of nephews and
nieces and cousins
