David Patterson

Pastor Clinton D. Patterson, planted his sword in the sandy banks of time and traded mortality for immortality on June 7, 2022. He was born to David and Mattie Patterson on November 11, 1936. He's a 1955, graduate of Perry County Training School, currently known as Robert C. Hatch High School and was an avid basketball player.
In his early years Clinton moved to Birmingham and joined Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. J. H. Henry.
He accepted his calling to the ministry, preached his first public sermon and was licensed into the ministry on September 10, 1961.
In December, of 1961, he met and married the love of his life, Lillie B. Young and to this union five girls were born, Florencia Laureet, Clintonia Maria, Donnetta Aurelia, Edshena Patrice and Bernita Faye. He loved his daughters dearly and was beyond proud of their accomplishments.
After being ordained into the ministry, he was called to pastor the New Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, AL. He began his ministry in 1965. He served faithfully in the church and community. In October1972, Reverend Patterson accepted the call as pastor of Beulah Baptist Church.
He was employed at Booker T. Washington Insurance Company as a manager and retired after 35 years of service. He continued his educational process at Birmingham Easonian Bible College where he received a Bachelor of Theology (1963); a Bachelor of Arts (1983); and a Doctor of Divinity Degree (1983).
Pastor Patterson has served as an instructor at Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College, Director to the Retirement and Annuity Board of the Alabama Baptist State Missionary Convention, Lecturer In the Alabama Baptist Missionary State Convention and Alabama Baptist State Congress of Christian Education; Past President of the Northwest District State Baptist Convention, Past Moderator of the Jefferson County District Association, Member of the Inter-Baptist Ministries; Member of the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Birmingham, AL, Member of Geometry Lodge 410; Member of Birmingham Area Council Boys Scouts of America; Member of Tuxedo Heights Civic League, former Member of the Board of Directors of the A. G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club, and former Chairman and Member of the Selma University Board of Trustees. In 1996, he traveled
to Africa to fulfill the great commandment of going into the world to preach the gospel. After his trip there, he led the church to assist in meeting the ministry's need for transportation. The church continues to support the spread of the gospel in Africa.
His leadership and administrative abilities have been exemplified by the progress at Beulah during the time he has served as Pastor.
He licensed, ordained and installed several sons in the ministry.
Pastor Patterson served faithfully and God truly blessed his faithfulness. Of all the accomplishments, Pastor Patterson said that he was most pleased with the spiritual growth and maturity of Beulah under his leadership. He was most proud of being able to open and close worship service, church conferences and all other activities with prayer. God blessed the church with peaceful meetings. Pastor Patterson was proud that his labor was not in vain, and that Beulah remained a beacon of light on the corner. He gave all the honor and praise to God.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of sixty years, Lillie Y. Patterson, children, Michael Jordan, Florencia (Warren) Sellers, Clintonia Patterson, Donnetta Patterson, Edshena (Russell) Allen, Bernita F. Patterson-Ryan, Gary Ryan; Grandchildren; Candace, Jamayla, Taelor, Clinton Jai, Jonathan, Sydnee; great grands, Catarrius, Kenneth, Kenndi; siblings, Robert Nelson, Florence Sanders, Ruby Mae Herbert; in-laws, Earnestine Hollinshed, Henry (Brenda) Sanders, Earnest Sanders, Classie (Willie) Thomas, Norma (Donald) Sanders, Brenda (James) Long; thirteen first cousins who were raised like siblings, Mary, Betty Frances, Gloria, Phyllis, Betty, Linda, Charlotte, Henry, George, Ben, James, John Ed, and Phillip Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the entire membership of Beulah Baptist Church, bonus sons, George Long, Ronald Robusky, other relatives and friends.
