Mrs. Mary Jackson Watson was born March 7, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama to Mr. Walter Jackson, Sr. and Mrs. Ella Moore Jackson. She was preceded in death by both parents, her sister, Celester Jackson, and her brother, Walter Jackson Jr. Mary met and married Bracie Watson, Sr., and they remained married until his death in 2005. Out of this union, three children were born, who she loved and devoted her life to. Mary was a faithful member of Triumph Smith Temple Church until her passing.
She served her church faithfully as Secretary, giving her time, talents, and dedication to the work of the church. Her commitment to her church family was an important part of her life, and she will be remembered for her faithful service and devotion.
Mary valued education and dedicated her life to learning and serving others. She attended A.H. Parker High School and continued her education at Miles College, where she completed her undergraduate studies in Elementary Education. She went on to attend Alabama State University where she completed her graduate studies and earned her Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Mary dedicated many years of her professional life to Birmingham City Schools, where she served as a teacher, teacher-mentor, and assistant principal. Through her work as an educator and mentor, she made a lasting difference in the lives of students, teachers, and colleagues.
Outside of her professional and church life, Mary enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She loved shopping, traveling to Destin, Florida, and enjoying good meals, especially at Golden Corral. These activities created many cherished memories with her family.
Mary leaves to cherish her loving memory: three children, Dr. Bracie Watson, Jr. (Washington D.C); Constance Watson Burnes and Cheryl (Alan) Harris Walker (Birmingham, Alabama); her grandson Walter DeLaurence Burnes (Dallas, Texas); her beloved aunt Ida Bea Seamen (Montgomery, Alabama); and a host of relatives, friends and church family.
