Mattie P. Barnes was born on April 17, 1945, to the late Ada Mitchell and Artice Cliatt. She accepted Christ early in life as a teenager. She
was baptized at South Elyton Baptist Church in Tittusville under the late Reverend Moreland Lanier, where she served on the usher board.
She was educated in the Birmingham School System. She attended Washington Elementary and graduated from Ullman High School.
She was preceded in death by her baby sister, Betty Jean Cliatt, mother, Ada Mitchell, and father, Artice Cliatt. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: a devoted sister, Annie Carter (Freddie); niece, Michele Carter; nephew, Corey Carter, Sr. (Quandlyn); great-nephew, Corey Carter, Jr.; great-niece, Kennedi Carter; a host of cousins and friends; and special friend, Aquanetta Smith.
