Obituary

In Loving Memory of Matthew Arvel McCarroll November 13, 2005 – June 16, 2026

Matthew Arvel McCarroll was born on November 13, 2005, in Birmingham, Alabama, at Brookwood Hospital, to Shelby Sanders-McCarroll and the late Manfred McCarroll. He entered the world alongside his beloved twin sister, Rhyan, beginning a bond that would remain unbreakable throughout his life.

On June 16, 2026, Matthew peacefully answered the Master's call and entered eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

From an early age, Matthew possessed a curious mind and a remarkable appreciation for life. His interests were as diverse as his talents. He developed a love for music and playing the drums, and as he grew older, his passions expanded to include construction, agriculture, gardening, and fishing. Matthew took great pride in caring for his chickens and cultivating his garden, finding joy in watching things grow. He was also known for his sharp sense of style and attention to detail—even owning a steam press at one point because he always wanted to look his very best.

Matthew graduated from Bessemer City High School in 2024, where he distinguished himself as a leader and active participant in numerous school organizations and programs. During his high school years, he served on the Principal's Student Advisory Committee, participated in GEAR UP, was recognized as Bessemer's BEST Student of the Month, and became a familiar face as an anchor for the BCHS Morning Announcements. His dedication, leadership, and positive spirit earned him the respect and admiration of his classmates, teachers, and community.

Following graduation, Matthew began his professional career with Thompson Engineering, where he demonstrated the same strong work ethic and commitment that characterized every area of his life. He was also a devoted and longtime team member and leader at Milo's, where he worked throughout his high school years and beyond. Whether at work, tending his garden, or spending time with family and friends, Matthew approached life with determination, kindness, and enthusiasm.

Matthew's personality was truly unforgettable. His bright smile could light up any room, and his infectious laughter brought joy to everyone around him. His unmistakable country twang, quick wit, and playful remarks kept those he loved smiling. He possessed a compassionate heart, a gentle spirit, and a genuine love for people. Matthew never met a stranger and had a unique way of making others feel welcomed and valued.

One of Matthew's greatest joys was music. He had a deep appreciation for classic soul and blues, especially artists such as The Stylistics and Bobby Bland. The timeless melodies and heartfelt lyrics of the music he loved often served as the soundtrack to his life and reflected the warmth and depth of his character.

Matthew's faith journey began at New Bethlehem Baptist Church and later led him to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he continued to grow spiritually and deepen his relationship with God.

Matthew leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving mother, Shelby Sanders-McCarroll; his devoted twin sister, Rhyan McCarroll; his sisters, Tia McCarroll and Majesty McCarroll; his grandparents, Matthew and Donna McCarroll; his aunt, Ta'Nisha McCarroll; his uncle, Joseph Cottrell McCarroll; and a host of other loving relatives, dear friends, coworkers, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.
