Obituary

Mary Louise Winn was the eldest of twin girls born to Robert Winn and Rebecca Lucille Jackson on April1,1945 in Sawyerville (Hale County) Alabama. The family moved to Birmingham in the early 1950s. She attended Birmingham City Schools and was a graduate of G.W. Carver High School. She was the mother of two sons: Gregory Earl Winn (LaToya) of Clayton, North Carolina; and Johnathan Clinton Sharpe, Sr (Bonnie) of Birmingham, who predeceased her. She was married to Curtis Kimber from 1984 to 1991.

Over the years, Mary was employed as a patient aide at the Hargis Hospital in Norwood (Birmingham), as a presser at a local uniform company, and as a nurse, and briefly studied at Jefferson State Junior College. Her life was forever changed in the 1970s when her automobile was struck by a train, and she was left with severe back injuries. Inspite of it all, she maintained a great sense of humor and enjoyed tending her house plants, cooking, baking, and watching reruns of TV westerns.

In October 2022 she became ill and was hospitalized. Unable to continue living alone, she became a resident of Oak Knoll Health and Rehabilitation in December 2022. She resided there until her passing on the afternoon of Friday, December 1,2023.

Mary confessed Christ as a young girl and united with the St. Mark Baptist Church in Collegeville. In young adulthood, she moved her membership to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in North Birmingham. In her latter years, she joined the First Seventh Day Adventist Church in Adamsville, Alabama.

Mary was one of six children, and was predeceased by all of her siblings: Josie Ruth Williams Taylor(WillieC.), Mattie Sylvia Williams Taylor(Melvin), Susie Lou Winn Crumb(Herman),Napoleon Williams(Celestine), and Charles Jerome Jackson. She leaves her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends with cherished and precious memories.
