Obituary

The Life, Love, and Legacy....Mary Rutherford, a devoted wife, loving family member, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully in Birmingham, Alabama, just shy of her 90th birthday.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 18, 1935, to Bertha and Nathan Williams, Mary spent many years in New York working hard to help provide for her family. At age 20, she met Augustine, the man she fell in love with and married in 1957.

They began building a life together and welcomed their only child, Linda Rutherford, in 1958. Mary's strength was tested again later that year when Augustine was drafted into the Army. She worked as a dedicated nurse at Mercy Hospital in Long Island, NY, until her health declined.

In 1998, Mary and Augustine retired and returned to her hometown to be closer to family. They shared a beautiful marriage of over 65 years—a love story admired by all who knew them. Mary was a God-fearing Christian woman who stood faithfully alongside Augustine in their shared walk of faith, serving both their church and community. As their health began to decline with age, Mary and Augustine remained each other's greatest support, along with their daughter Linda and a strong network of family and friends.

Augustine passed away in 2024, and soon after, Mary's health also took a turn.

Mary was the eldest of ten siblings and is survived by five of them.

She leaves behind her loving daughter Linda; her sisters Minnie, Dean, and Barbara; her brothers Melvin and Dewitt; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mary was deeply loved by her family, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. We find peace and joy knowing she is now at rest, reunited with loved ones, and embraced by the glory of God.

"Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven."

And for those who knew Mary, they knew she loved the finer things. May she now receive her everlasting reward in heaven—for He is the resurrection and the life."Well done, good and faithful servant."
