Mary Louise
Horne Jones
May 1, 1928 – October 22, 2024
Mrs. Mary Louise Horne Jones was born on May 1, 1928, to the late Mr. William and Mrs. Annie Mae Curtis Horne, in Desoto, Mississippi.
She attended Tarrant Junior High School, and Hooper City High School. After starting her career at the Lucky Strike Restaurant in Tarrant, Mary found her true calling at Carraway Hospital, where she served in the Food Service Department for 30 years. Known for her warmth and hospitality, she became a beloved presence among both staff and patients. She took pride in providing not just meals but also comfort and kindness to everyone who crossed her path.
Mary was a devoted member of the St. James AME Church, where her faith shone brightly through her faithful contributions. She served as a Senior Stewardess, actively participated in the Women's Missionary Society, and was a cherished member of the Sunday School. Mary's love of God was evident in all she did, and she found true joy in her role on the Stewardess Board, where she embraced the opportunity to serve her community with warmth and grace. Her spirit of kindness and dedication to her church family left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Mary nurtured her passion for gardening while residing for many years in the Morton Simpson (Kingston) community, where she raised a beautiful garden filled with collard greens, tomatoes, okra, and more. This passion brought joy to her neighbors, who often admired her vibrant plants. After moving to Freedom Manor Senior Apartments, she remained actively involved in community activities. She was a beloved and respected tenant and neighbor, known for her kind spirit and generous heart. She gave her support to many of the residents that needed a "helping hand". She loved Christmas and decorated her unit inside and out every year with bright lights and beautiful bows.
"Lou" enjoyed her big family, often attending gatherings and celebrations. She affectionately called her family members "my love" a term that reflected the deep affection and care she showed to everyone around her.
On Wednesday, October 22, 2024, God called Mary Louise to her heavenly home at the age of 96 years old - milestone in this life.
