Obituary

Mamie Woodard Tate was born January 1, 1942, to Otis and Dorothy Woodard. She graduated from Ullman High School and attended Birmingham Southern College.

In the early 1960s, she met and married David Tate, Jr., and they remained married until his death in 2019. Out of this union, four daughters were born, whom she loved and devoted her life to: Sonya, Veronica (Gary), Verlanda, and Michelle. She also shared her life with two special grandsons, Courtney and James, and one great-granddaughter, Justice.

Though she grew up with limited means, she never allowed those circumstances to determine her future. She worked for over 35 years at Woolco, Parisian, and Belk, advancing from sales associate to the highest honor: sales consultant. Even after retirement, she found a way to stay busy and active by volunteering at Railroad Park and working at Regions Park with the Birmingham Barons.

She will be missed tremendously and cherished by many, including a brother, a sister, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. She will always be in our hearts, and we'll always be grateful for that.
