Obituary

Mable Ward Peterson, affectionately known as "Doll" to many, was born on September 15th, 1937 to Jasper and Annie Ward in Burnsville, Alabama.

After moving to Birmingham at an early age, Mable graduated from Immaculata High School in 1956. She later graduated from Good Samaritan Nursing School in Selma, AL, and received her LPN Nursing License. Mable went on to earn her RN Nursing license from Howard Community College in Columbia MD. She retired from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Nursing was Mable's calling, her passion, and her ministry. Her dedication to nursing and caring for others continued into her retirement. Her ministry was evident as she cared for anyone, friend or family who needed her throughout her retirement. Mable was loved by so many friends and family as they always appreciated her "tell it like it is approach to life".

Mable met Joseph Peterson at Miles College in Birmingham. They later Married in NY City in 1961 and shared a lifelong love and commitment to one another that was admired by so many. Mable and Joseph made many lifelong friends while living in New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Ohio and retiring in their hometown of Birmingham AL. Mable was a long-standing member of St. Luke AME Church in Birmingham, AL

Mable Ward Peterson leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, of 63 years Joseph Peterson, 2 daughters and 1 son, Joanne Peterson Smith of Birmingham, AL, Janet Peterson Leahr (Daniel) of Loganville, GA, and Jeffery Ward Peterson of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Joseph Smith III (Brianna) of Charlotte NC, Jordan Smith of Birmingham, AL, Brian Newkirk of Snellville, GA, Jasper Peterson of Burlington KY, Lauren Leahr of Loganville, GA, Jade Peterson of  Burlington, KY, Gabrielle Leahr of Loganville, GA; 4 Great Grandchildren, Landyn Scott, Dimitri Smith, Journdy Smith, Zamarion Peterson. 2 Sisters, Fannie Foster of Elkridge, MD, Jacquelyn Gibson (Richard) of Miami Gardens, FL, 10 nieces, 10 nephews, and a host of loving great nieces, great nephews and cousins.Ms. Peterson was preceded in death by her parents Jasper and Annie Ward, and her brother Cleophus Ward.
