Obituary

Lucy K. Peterson was born October 23, 1922, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Rebecca Kimbrough Moore and Rias Kimbrough. She was the third of four children.


She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Ensley since the 1930's. Her service, loyalty and dedication were exhibited by her active participation in community, educational and church activities (Ensley-Pratt Voters League, The PTA, the Ensley Community Neighborhood Organization, the Deacons Wives, the Missionary Society and the Senior Choir). She loved traveling, sewing, crocheting and cooking. She was famous for her homemade fruit cakes, homemade rolls, egg custard pies, caramel and coconut cakes. Every holiday and birthday gathering was joyful food occasion among family and friends.


Lucy Kimbrough Peterson was married to the late Brown Peterson on June 14, 1942, in Birmingham, AL for 73 years. To this union, four children were born. One son, Clinton R. Peterson, preceded her in death.


Lucy K. Peterson transitioned on December 9, 2022. She leaves cherished memories with her children: Brownie Peterson Jones, Dwight (Dorothy) Peterson, Sylinda (Eddie) DeBardleben; 7 grandchildren Calandra (Aubrey) McDonald, Altrise Jones, Derrick Reynolds, Derrica (Joseph) Brown, Joneishia McCurdy, Jehan (Michael) Quinn, Sr., and LaTasha Peterson, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.


She will always be remembered for her famous quote "LOVE...CARE...SHARE."
