Lucy Anne Coley Pleasant Brown born December 31, 1945 to the late Alvesta Harvey Coley and the late Mackaroy Coley Sr.

She joined Shady Grove Baptist Church at a young age under the leadership of the late Rev. L. J. Rodgers where she taught Sunday School, served as the Sunday School Secretary, worked on the Jr. Usher Board and served as Secretary of the Usher Board as well. She was also the Secretary of the Mission and Secretary of the Church. She is under the current leadership of Pastor M. S. Yarbrough, where she served as a faithful Member of the Women Outreach Ministry as well as the Deaconess Board. Lucy was married at the age of 20 to Harry Lee Pleasant, Sr in June of 1966. They were married for 10 years and had two children, Harriett and Harry, Jr. 10 years later, Harry died and Lucy later met and married Joseph Brown, Sr and from that union two children were born Joseph Jr and Josette. She attended Mrs. Elles Kindergarten at the age of 4 and attended Hudson Elementary School, Carver High School and Booker T Washington Business College where she graduated in 1968. Her first job was at the Masonic Temple as a part-time relief Elevator Operator. She later was employed by Goldure and Morgan painting and Decorating Center as a Secretary. She also worked at South Central Bell as a telephone operator. She also made history as she was the first Black Secretary to work for Equitable Life Insurance Company in Birmingham. She later went on to work at U.S. Pipe Shop in June 1970 were she worked faithfully for 22 years. During her working years she was able to build a home.

She later became ill and had to come home and was taken care of by her family and later by her youngest daughter Josette Brown who cared for her faithfully and selfishly up until the day she died on February 29, 2024 at UAB Hospital.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husbands Harry Lee Pleasant Sr, and Joseph Brown, Sr. Older son, Harry Lee Pleasant Jr, as well as her brother Mackaroy Coley, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted daughter Josette Brown, Harriett (David) Pittman, a loving son Joseph (Rena) Brown; grandchildren, Yhanica Kavelle Pleasant, Angel Sharpe Khymel Yeaki Chaverst; Joseph Sanquez Brown, Jorey Sanquez Brown, Josiah Sanquez Brown and her newest grandson born February 24 th Jacorey Sanquez Brown; one great grandson Malakiyah Yazariahla Holt; three sisters, Marian Neely, Edith (Clennon) Brown, Ella (Larry) Bailey; one brother James (Patsy) Coley; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives, friends and Church Family.
