Lewis Commons, aka "Sweet Lou", "Good Dad" and "Greenwood" passed away on August 29, 2020. Born to Susie Harris Commons and the late Andrew Jackson Commons Sr., on September 2, 1957 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was raised in the church and dedicated his life to the Lord as a member of Anitoch Baptist Church in Collegeville. He was a passionate athlete, who grew up playing little e league baseball. He continued
to play baseball, winning several championships and running track at George Washington Carver High School. He received a track scholarship to Wiley College in Marshall, Texas aftee r graduating in 1975. Lewis Commons was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife, Francine Andrews
Commons for twenty-five years. After their nuptials, he later joined Jones Chapel A.M.E, Fairfield Al, Alabama. Thee two of them became a blended and blessed family with five children, Twanna Dallas, Ezekiel (Ashley) Andrews, James (Dynesha) McKenzie III, Jacobi Commons, and Earvin McKenzie. Thee y were also blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, James McKenzie IV, Emoni McKenzie, Solomon McKenzie, Malachi McKenzie, and one on the way. Lewis dedicated thirty-one years as an Environmental Service Technician and Operating Room Technician at Carraway Methodist Medical Center until its'closing in October 2008. He went on to work at the University of Alabama Hospital in Environmental Services until retirement in 2019. Lewis Commons was dedicated and highly skilled! He enjoyed working and taking care of his family and friends. Always eager to learn a new skill; Lewis was well known for, landscaping, home improvements, nursing aide, and being a gifted chef. He also spent
years working special events and security. Lewis was an avid sports fan, who also gave back by volunteering as a mentor and youth coach for the Birmingham and Fairfield Al areas. Preceded in death by his father, Andrew Jackson Commons Sr., siblings, Emma Lou Fultz, Andrew Jackson Commons Jr, and Terrence Lorenzo Commons. He had one son who died in infancy, Lewis Commons Jr. "Fatman". Lewis is survived by a strong
mother, Susie Mae Harris Commons, and siblings: Julia (Melvin) Allen, Annettlia Commons, Bertha Lee Dorsey John Henry Commons, Jerry Commons, Ed E. (Jacquelyn) Commons. He leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones. Graveside Service will be held George Washington Carver Memorial Gardens at 11:00 A.M.
