Obituary

Lakennia McMiller Dickey "Honey", life journey began on December 28, 1956, as the sixth child to the late Willie McMiller and Annie Margaret McMiller in Birmingham, Alabama. Her commitment to Christ was validated at an early age by her confession of Christ and baptism at First Missionary Baptist Church, Pratt City where she served as an usher, progressive matron, and choir member for many years.

Lakennia graduated from Jackson-Olin High School class of 1974 and The University of Alabama Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She was a devoted and loyal educator of Birmingham City Schools for over 30 years as a teacher's assistant, Young Mother's Program assistant, and Kindergarten Teacher.

Lakennia "Honey" lived a fulfilling and purposeful life. Her love for holidays and decorations never went unnoticed. Baking pound cakes and her dressing kept the family waiting for the next holiday. She was such a classy lady in her pearls and hats. Arts and crafts and collecting Barbies were her favorite hobbies.

Christ called her home Sunday morning, June 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dan Ella Gales "Cookie", and brothers Julius Jonathan Suttle "Joe" and Willie McMiller III "Chubby".

Lakennia "Honey" will be forever be remembered by her husband Lawrence Dickey, daughters Sherre McMiller, Shwanda Dickey, and Jessica Tripp; eight grandchildren George, Cameron, Antwanajah, Caleb, Jewelz, Zuri, Alan, and Jayce; brothers Russell McMiller and Marlon McMiller; sisters Quintine Russell, Margie (Joe) Artis, and Endia McMiller; one aunt Betty Cope; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
