Mr. Johnathan B. Kelly was born on May 13,
1949 in Birmingham, Alabama,, to the late Mr. Larry & Mrs.
Lucille B. Kelly. He was educated in the Birmingham City School
System (Carver High) and attended Tuskegee University. During
his college years he became a musician in the group known as
The Commodores. He joined the US Army, where he served a
number of years.
He became a loving husband to the late Arlicia Kelly and also
the late Rev. D.J. Kelly. He became a very supportive father of six
children shortly thereafter. He worked for South Central Bell and
AT&T until he retired. He allowed God to use him to be a musical
blessing to so many churches such as Zion Star Missionary
Baptist, Shiloh Missionary Baptist, and Faith Followers Spiritual
Church of Truth, just to name a few. He instilled a love and
drive for music into his children, grandchildren and anyone that
wanted to learn.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister, Larrye Kelly;
six children, Emanuel Kelly (Ashley, Erica, and Megan),
Christopher Kelly, Johnece (Rueben) Kelly-Wilson (Freddie,
Fredrick, Audraniece, and Dentrell), Arlicia Kelly (LeeAndru
and Tyrone), LaChelle Kelly (Khristien, Kalieb, and Praise), and
Michelle (Tracy) Kelly-Lewis (Joshua and Tracie); goddaughters,
Kurnita Boyd and Lakecia Tolbert; godfamily, Deidra Cross and
Family; and a host of family and friends.
We are going to truly miss his warm smile, his hilarious actions
and his famous saying, "I don't know!!!"
