Jessie M
Tyus
January 15, 1933 – November 3, 2022
Death is not a tragedy for those who have faith in God. "In the twinkling of an eye, they pass through the veil called 'death:' into the life which is everlasting."
Mrs. Jessie M. Tyus was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on January 15, 1933. The oldest of fourteen children of Mr. Joe Cargill and Mrs. Essie Cargill, she departed this life on Thursday, November 3, 2022, with her son and brother by her side.
She attended Scott Elementary and A. H. Parker High School. She graduated from Miles College with a bachelor's in education. She integrated Chilton County schools and was one of the first black educators at Jemison Elementary School. She dedicated 30 years as a 5th grade Language Arts teacher.
She became a Christian at a very early age and joined St. John Baptist Church in Pratt City, Alabama.
She was married to the late Mr. Jimmie Tyus.
She leaves to cherish her life and good works: her only son, Mr. Jimmie L. Tyus, Jr., (Sharon) of Tuscaloosa, AL, six stepchildren, four brothers, five sisters-in-law, three sisters, one brother-in- law, an aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
