Obituary

Jean attended Crane High School and Prairie State College where she studied Child Development. Jean was employed by US Postal Service
and later married the love of her life SGT. Charlie Washington, Jr. From this union, two beautiful daughters were born. Jean went on to work at
Department of Children and Family Services, before her relocation to her husband's hometown of Birmingham, Alabama.
Jean was employed as a clerical secretary at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was a member of the American Heart Association and "CHARPS" - Community Health Advisors Research Partners and worked diligently until her retirement in October 2013.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Marjean (Tommy) Williams and Charlyn Trina (Darrol) Jones, stepdaughter, Cherita LaTasha; sister-in-law, Mary Seward; nine grandchildren; a very special friend, Marlene Haynes; goddaughter, Toi Haynes; a host of
cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Viewing will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from noon until 7:00 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Noon at True Life Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Smith & Gaston Southside directing.
