Mrs. James Edna Peters Wells, was born May 30, 1922 to the union of Desabee and Agnes Gazaway Peters. A graduate of "Industrial High" School, now A. H. Parker High, and a 1944 graduate of Miles College. "Bam-Bam" as she was lovingly called by grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and family, taught in the Birmingham School System over thirty-five years. She was known for her love of family and her extraordinary cooking skills. As a member of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, she was a dedicated and active member of the Deaconesses and the Southisde Matrons until her husband's health declined. She transitioned very peacefully on February 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton C. Wells, her daughter, Janice Carole Wells Kennedy, and a special grandson, Joseph Kight. She leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Rosalyn Wells Mitchell (Robert), grandsons, Dwight Kennedy and Courtney Kennedy (Keisha); granddaughters, Lauren Mitchell and Ashley Wells; great grandchildren, Dwight Carlton "DJ" Kennedy, Jr., Jeremiah Kennedy, Courtney J.Kennedy, Imarii Wycoff, Kaiden Kennedy and Cameron Kennedy. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church with interment in Elmwood Cemetery. Smith & Gaston Southside directing.
