James "Jimmy" Mitchell Jr. departed this life on Monday, September 29, 2025 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Born on September 07, 1947, to the late James Mitchell Sr. and Katherine W. Mitchell, was the oldest of seven children. Deceased siblings are Jessica, Clifford, Darrell, and DeWitt and his and Marilyn's loving son, Arque M. Mitchell. He is survived by his siblings: Debora M. Davis, Lamar Mitchell, Rose Marie Greene, Felicia McBride and Regina Ward, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and associates.
Jimmy was with God united early in life at Zion Star Missionary Baptist in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a 1965 graduate from Immaculata Catholic High School and was drafted immediately after graduation into the United States Army, where he competed an honorable discharge after three years.
After completing his military services, he began his career at American Cast Iron and Pipe Company (ACIPCO), retiring after 40 years or service, where he had a strong work ethic and an unmistakable style. On September 14, 1986, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Toney, and to this union was born one son, Arque M. Mitchell of whom they loved deeply.
Through several health challenges, he remained devoted to his family and siblings, cherishing his role as a father and brother. Jimmy was a man of truth and would tell it like is, with no filters nor fluff. His outspoken nature made him memorable, but it was balanced by his genuine love of people and his commitment to all. He was a type person who would show up, speak his mind, and give you a big hug on his departure. He was strong a believer in giving back to those who gave to him. Jimmy was genuine, authentic, compassionate, sincere, and sympathetic and was loved by all.
He was a role model and someone who family and friends could count on to provided words of wisdom.
His life was filled with many meaningful relationships.
