also affectionately known to everyone as "Daddy McMeans", was called to Glory on Friday, February 26, 2016. He was born on March 30, 1921 to the late Mr. Willie Lee and Isabell McMeans in Lowndes County, Alabama. He was the 4th of seven children. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Westfield, Alabama. He worked at U. S. Steel for 42 years of hard work and dedication and retired in 1982. He met and married the late Mrs. Evelyn Valentine McMeans and they were devoted to each other for 55 years. To this union was born six lovely children, Shirley Mithcell (Joe), J. C., Jr. (Flora), Emma Carruth (Willie), Alvin McMeans, Barbara Swift and Bruce McMeans. He also leaves to cherish his memory 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Fairfield, Alabama. Interment in Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer, Alabama. Smith & Gaston Southside directing.
