Henry Louis Powell, Jr., was born on April 19, 1946, to the late Reverend Henry L. Powell, Sr., and Lillie Turner Powell. He was the oldest of three children.

Henry, affectionately known as Jimmie, was a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He confessed Christ at an early age and attended Mount
Moriah United Methodist Church.

He was educated in the Birmingham City School System. During his high school years, he played football as a defensive tackle at Carol W.
Hayes High School. He was called "Pow Wow" by his schoolmates because of his tall stature, his amazing strength and agility. He also studied at Miles College and played football during that time.

Henry landed employment with Bruno's Warehouse, Supreme Beverage Company, and Hertz Car Rental. He also worked as a Security Guard. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Betty Sams. To this union, one son, Carlous R. Sams was born.

During his latter years, Henry joined the Villa Faith Ministries, where he served as a Deacon and completed coursework for ministry certification.

Henry loved his friends and family. He loved family gatherings and church fellowships. He had an incredible memory for birth dates and
historical events. He was an avid sports fan, and he especially loved football.

Henry departed this life on Sunday, September 29, 2024, following a brief illness.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Betty Sams; two sons, Ferlando Arnold and Carlous R. Sams; two sisters, Alicia Powell Andrews and
Belinda Powell; a devoted nephew, Antoine (Lisa) Andrews; three loving nieces, Anita R. Andrews, Adrienne D. Holmes, and Amanda R.
Andrews; and a host of cousins, friends, and the Pastor and members of Villa Faith Ministries.
