Henry James,
Jr.
September 16, 1950 – November 17, 2024
Henry ("Skip") James, Jr. was born on September 16, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama to Delois Milliner James and Henry James, Sr. Henry was educated in the Birmingham School System where he attended Ramsay High School. He confessed Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Grant Chapel AME Church. He was active at the Church and drove the church van for several years. Henry married Fae Carr on July 5, 1973. He followed his father's footsteps and went to work for ACIPCO, but a broken arm from a work injury left him searching for other opportunities. Shortly thereafter, Henry gained an entrepreneurial spirit, a gift from his mother, and began his quest to become a business owner. Henry first opened James Janitorial Service and later J's Quick Shop, a small grocery staple in the community for almost twenty years. Everyone in the area knew "J"! He passed on his independent spirit and desire to "have your own" to each of his children. Later in life, Henry was a patient transport driver where he took pride in knowing how to get anywhere in greater Birmingham "without GPS!" He was outspoken about EVERYTHING and you never had to question how he felt about any given situation. Henry loved sports, and in his heyday, coached volleyball and football at the local community center. He loved to travel, fellowship with his family, and took every opportunity to attend family functions; especially with his brothers. After several growing health challenges, Henry "Skip" left us November 17, 2024 and went to be present with the LORD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Delois James and his big brother Donald Edward Milliner. Henry leaves to cherish his memories: His beloved children Charles D. James, Christopher M. Griffin, Khadijah Howard Pambo (Serge), Nichole James Vickers (Ferris III), and Tamala Skipwith Truss (Robert); his cherished grandchildren Chris Jr., Desean, Jayden, Jairus, Makayla, Ferris IV, and Zion; great-grandson Connor; brothers Harry James (Angela Claire) and Edgar James (Alethea Faye); Sister-in-Law Bessie Milliner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
