Obituary
February 12, 1948 – September 7, 2023
Henrietta Dawson Woods was born to the late Mary Magdalene (Hagler) Dawson and Arliss Dawson on Thursday morning, February 12, 1948. She was the oldest of six children born to them and the first to pass away.
Henrietta attended school in Dora, Alabama and graduated from T. S. Boyd in 1966. She completed her associate degree in business and office education from Walker State Technical College several years later after returning to Alabama.
Henrietta confessed Christ at an early age and joined New Hope Baptist Church in Argo, Alabama where Reverend Roosevelt Keebler was the pastor. After moving to Akron, Ohio, she joined Providence Baptist Church led by Reverend John Wheeler.
On December 9, 1966, Henrietta married the late Curtis L. Jones, and two children were born, Feborah Michelle and Andre Lamar. In October 1987, she married Johnny J. Woods for a short period during which she inherited a wonderful niece, Lobrena Renibert.
Henrietta worked for the Social Security Administration in Birmingham, Alabama until her retirement in 2004. Afterward, she worked as the Office Manager at Mini-Storage of Birmingham for 5 years until her cancer made it too difficult.
In 1987, Henrietta joined the Shades Valley Temple #685 of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World in Bessemer, Alabama and remained an active member holding numerous positions, both local and statewide, and was honored for her service in 2018. Notably, she was an intricate member of the Beauty & Talent Department where she took special interest in the development of young women for the various
pageants and encouraging their futures in college.
Unfortunately, Henrietta did not overcome her cancer and departed this life on Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2023.
Her legacy includes her children, Feborah Dixon of Bessemer, Alabama and Andre Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; her siblings Linda Ezell of Inglewood, California, Elder Arliss Dawson (Ga Von) of Douglasville, Georgia, Ronald Dawson (Yvonne) of Los Angeles, California, Mary Norman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Pamela Dawson Clark of Los Angeles, California and two adopted brothers: Malik Dawson and Lester Dawson, both of
Los Angeles, California. She leaves her aunt, her mother's last remaining sister, Annie Ruth Muse of Argo, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
