Obituary

Hattie Geraldine Levert Alexander was a blessing to her community and went beyond the call of
duty in caring for others. She passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 94. Born
May 25, 1930, in Birmingham, Alabama, Hattie was the daughter of the late Henry Levert, Sr.
and Lena (Braxton) Levert.

Hattie was educated in Birmingham and graduated from A. H. Parker High School in 1948. She
graduated from Booker T. Washington Business College and furthered studies were completed
at Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio.

On October 1, 1955, Hattie was united in holy matrimony to John P. Alexander, Sr., and to this
union three children were born: John P. Jr., Sandra, and Laurie Ann.
Hattie touched many lives in the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church over the years.
Her Christian education began at Brown's Memorial CME Church in Birmingham. In 1951, she
relocated to Cleveland, Ohio and became a member of Lane Metropolitan CME Church. Hattie

Member of the J.C. Coles Fellowship, and chaired the first two Homecomings. Hattie was the
Coordinator of the Ebony Drive Fund Raiser sponsored by the Johnson Publishing Company,
which allowed the church to pay cash for its first church van.

While in Cleveland, Hattie was employed with the City of Cleveland Health Department and Dr.
Fredrick Optical Company. In 1992, she retired as Financial Manager of Weltman, Weinberg &
Associate Company, LPA because she wanted to care for her first grandchild. She was a member
of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA), United Way and the Auburndale Street
Club.

In 1994, Hattie returned to Birmingham and became a member of Thirgood Memorial CME
Church. She was active with the Sunday School, Bible Study Class, The Seniors, better known as
the Keenagers, Secretary of the Missionary Society and the Commission on Membership and
Evangelism. Her community involvement included the Class of 1948 of A. H. Parker High School,
the Roosevelt City Neighborhood Association and teaching exercise to seniors.

life's journey until his passing in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Charlie
Mae Levert and Henry Levert, Jr., and great nephew Antonio Levert.

Although Hattie has left this earthly realm; her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her
