Geraldine (Jet) Jones, age 87, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on November 30, 2016. A native of Fairfield, Alabama, she was born June 8, 1929. She retired, as a teacher, from the Birmingham City Schools System. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Freda Gray and her loving and devoted husband, James W. Jones, Jr. She was a devoted member of St. John AME Church, where she served on the Courtesy Guild, the Lay organization and the Missionary Society. She was a product of the Fairfield City School system and graduated form Fairfield High School. She attended North Carolina A&T College and received her Bachelor Degree and Master's Degree from Alabama State University, Montogmery, Alabama. She was a faithful member of Club Egelloc Social Club. Jet recently fulfilled one of her bucket list dreams; going on an Alaskan Cruise. She is survived by a nephew-in-law, Ronald Allen (Maxine), three god-children, Alvin Brunt, Edric Bran Mencer and Janice Billingslea, a devoted friend, Lurlene Mencer, cousins, friends and caregivers, Catherine Herndon and Mary Spain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John AME Church, 708 - 15th Street North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203, with Reverend Mashad A. Evans, Sr., officiating.
