Obituary

Geneva Wilson Starks was born March 25, 1932, to the late Ernest Wilson and Pauline Maxwell. She was the only child born to both parents. Geneva accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour at an early age. She was baptized and a member of 23rd Street Baptist Church until she later joined Westminster Presbyterian Church in 1967. Geneva served on the Communion Committee and would assist anywhere else she was needed in the church.

Geneva was a proud 1950 graduate of Parker High School. She attended and recruited former classmates to attend their reunions. She also attended Booker T. Washington Business College where she obtained an Associates in Business. Geneva moved to Trenton, New Jersey with her aunts and cousins for several years. She returned back to Birmingham years later and married her late husband (Marion Starks, Sr.) of 46 years. To this union there were three children: Yolanda S. Wright(Albert), Priscilla Starks and Marion B. Starks, Jr. Geneva worked at UAB as a Clerk for more than 25 years before retiring in 1992. Geneva was a God fearing woman that loved her family, friends and neighbors. She had a quiet and humble spirit. She was small framed with a strong voice. She kept to herself but loved to check on everyone. It was important to her that everyone was doing good.

Geneva was actively involved in the 10th Court West Block Club. She enjoyed their luncheons and spending time with neighbors.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Wilson and Pauline Maxwell and her grandson Alexander Jarrod Wright.

Geneva's memories will be cherished by her children: Yolanda S. Wright (Albert), Priscilla Starks, Marion B. Starks, Jr., bonus daughter Felecia Starks Anderson (Jake), six grandchildren: Terrance Whitt, Manual Luther Wiley, Paulina Wiley, Trevon O'Neal Starks, Brittany Starks Harris and Alexis Je'Nae Wright, 10 great grandchildren and a host of cousins and relatives. Geneva was the "matriarch" of both sides of her family. She was able to attend the Wilson 2018 reunion and made sure she gave Yolanda information she needed for the Maxwell upcoming reunion a couple of months ago.
