Geneva Hardy
Nixon Allison
September 17, 1932 – November 27, 2022
THE MISSIONARY AND THE CHANGE AGENT
Geneva Hardy (Nixon) Allison, affectionately known as "Jenny" was born September 17, 1932, in Mantua, Alabama (Greene County), one of three
born to the late Rosa Lee Hardy Nixon and one of four born to Martin Luther Goodson, Sr. Jenny departed this life at home in Decatur, Georgia
on November 27, 2022, at the most effectual age of 90 years old. Jenny was a country girl born in Matua, grew up in Birmingham but had a
heart for city life. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio at a young age where she began her career in banking and started a family. Jenny often told stories of how much fun she had throughout her life and was eminent for throwing Christmas parties or backyard barbecues just to
see people happy and enjoying life.
Jenny was the eldest of all her siblings so she grew up having to learn a lot on her own which made her very responsible. She knew part of growing up was obtaining an education or a trade. After a few years at Tuskegee University in accounting she went on to business school and began working in the business sector. The next phase of her career was 25 years in the banking industry from Cleveland Trust (Cleveland, Ohio) to NCNB (Charlotte, NC) which is now Bank of America. The last career phase of her life was assisting others in need during their transitioning of life. Her first job was a private nursing position with Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She complained about the long hours and the hard floors upon
which she stood for long hours. Diverting from hospital care to in-home care made more sense for her and was able to develop everlasting
friendships among the families (JoAnn). This brought her the most comfort among her careers as being able to help others feel good, this is where she retired.
Jenny departed this life receiving in-home hospice, but when the nurses would come by, she would "straighten them out" if they were doing something incorrect, she would inform them in a strong tone that she did the same and know what should be done. At an early age Jenny started her mark as a Change Agent: first for Jesus Christ through counsel of Walter Nixon Sr., then active involvement as a chairperson and group leader for Missionary Group #3, mass choir, adult choir, and annually took part in the Southern Region to the Progressive National Convention USA, Inc., National Baptist Convention, and several other ministry auxiliaries over her lifetime. Her beloved church of East Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio laid her steadfast assignment given by God. She journeyed through ministry with Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church (Charlotte, NC), Galilee Missionary Baptist Church (Birmingham, AL) and Union Grove Baptist Church (Union City, GA) which all collectively continued her guidance with empowerment and growing nearer to God.
Jenny's other true love was community engagement by empowering individuals and families. Throughout her life she was an active member and participant, held several office positions and collected achievement award within several different organizations such as Eastern Star
(Cleveland), The National Council of Negro Women (Charlotte and Atlanta), NAACP (NC, VA and GA) Jenny's participation monumentally brought a
chapter to her daughter's (daughter presided over the chapter) predominantly Caucasian High School in Mecklenburg County which
membership is still active after 30 years. As a neighborhood organizer she influenced the neighborhood to be safer, more involvement for youth and education. Her continued focus to ensure proper education for children was admiral among the Mecklenburg County school system's PTA from
secretary to President (Charlotte). Her involvement throughout life sparked life-long involvement for change in others.
Jenny's second love was education; it was not halted with involvement among elementary, middle and high schools in Cleveland, OH and
Charlotte, NC, but with post education and reading. Her plethora of books ranged from encyclopedias, to The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, many
editions of the 1960's Ebony magazine to novels. As family and love was important to embrace Jenny made her first leap of
love and married Thomas Spencer sadly, they divorced. In 1963 after moving to Cleveland, OH she found new love and married James M.
Allison, a military man, with whom they later had one child. After many years in Cleveland building a family and a real estate investment business,
they left Ohio and relocated to Charlotte, N.C. Several years later they parted ways and Jenny moved back home with her daughter to her parents
home in Birmingham, Alabama. Once her parents ascended with God, her daughter graduated college and she was not able to stay alone so she
moved with her daughter to Richmond, VA with her last stop in Decatur, GA. Jenny is preceded in death by her former husband James Allison
(Charlotte, NC); her parents Rosa Lee Hardy Nixon, Martin Luther Goodson, Sr., Walter Nixon, Sr. (stepfather); nephew Lovell Nixon;
grandparents Jeff and Adell Hardy; brother Frank C. Goodson; uncles Brady Harder, Josevell Hardy, Sr. and aunts Willie Pearl Hardy and Lucille
Prewitt.
She leaves to cherish her memory a lovely, devoted daughter Roslyn D. Allison of Decatur, GA. Two grandchildren Tony R. Prudhomme and Ijaza A. Hammonds; four brothers Ezell Nickson, Walter Nixon, Jr., Martin L. Goodson, Jr., Toice P. Goodson and one sister Shirley Goodson Chrisentery; four aunts Ethel Thomas - Eutwa, AL, Carrie Stallworth - Pensacola, FL, Odell Spencer - Birmingham, AL, Eleanor Webb - Boston, MA; nephew Derrick Blackmon and Walter Nixon III; nieces Whitney Nixon, Nicole Nixon; great-niece Cernecia Nixon, great-nephew Markeith Nixon all from Birmingham, AL; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
