Ellis Agee Sr. passed away peacefully at his residence in Birmingham, AL on June 8, 2022, at the age of 74. He was born in Birmingham AL on Feb 1, 1948, to Leo Agee Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Agee. He was proceeded in death by his Father, Mother, and younger brother Lonnie Dale Agee.
Ellis accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He has always given freely of his time, energy, and resources to serve his community and help others. Ellis loved to work on cars and cared deeply for his family and friends. He was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly after graduating high school and fought gallantly for his country as part of the 4 th Infantry Division in Vietnam where he was a purple heart recipient. His military service and devotion to duty earned him the nickname of "Old Soldier".
After leaving active service, he joined the Army Reserves, relocated to Michigan, and continued to serve his community as an Ecorse City Firefighter. He and his wife, Doretha Agee, had one son, Ellis Agee Jr. During his time in Michigan, he was an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and the local Lions Club. He served on numerous church auxiliaries including the nurses guild, cook staff, and senior usher board. He sincerely enjoyed preparing food for picnics, vacation bible school, special programs, and various other church functions. After retiring from the Army reserves and Fire Department, he continued to pursue his passion for mechanic work and frequently offered free service to individuals in need. In 2002, he returned to his boyhood home of Birmingham, where he continued to work on cars as a hobby, cared for his aging Mother, and actively serve his church and community. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion, compassion for others, and selflessness.
Old Soldier is survived by his wife Doretha Agee, only son Ellis Agee Jr. (Dana), older brother Leo Agee Jr. (Patricia), and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
