Mr. Eddie Lee Johnson, affectionately known as Son or Son Johnson by family, was born September 22, 1918 in Alberta, Alabama to the late Mr. Ines Johnson and Mrs. Emma Boyd; and reared by adopted parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Johnson. He confessed his belief in Christ as a youth and united with Mt Sinai Baptist Church in Alberta, AL. After moving to Birmingham, AL, he joined Sardis Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a dedicated Usher Board Member for many years. After reaching his seasoned senior years as a centenarian, he occasionally attended New Start Covenant of Grace Church when opportunities presented itself. After faithfully serving his country, he returned to Alberta and met the love of his life. On October 17, 1947, Eddie united in Holy Matrimony to his beloved Willie Mae Coleman. To this union, seven children were born with one son preceding him in death. He was a devoted husband and father, who was truly the patriarch of his family. His commitment and hard work over the years allowed
him to retire from Dixie Bronze Company after 37 years to the position of supervisor. Amongst other things outside of work, Eddie grew up in what we called the & Country and learned a very good work ethic. He was a hard worker and could cook like a chef. He was known as the Neighborhood Barber by many of the young boys as their & first Barber ;. As a Baseball Player in his younger days, he grew to love watching baseball, basketball and football at his leisure as often as he could. Eddie received his heavenly wings on Friday, September 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, his son Earnest Johnson, grandson Twallis McClendon, one sister, Annie Bell Pettway, two brothers, Robert Boyd and Freddie Boyd. He leaves to cherish his memories, six children: Edward Charles (Janice) Johnson, Ellen Johnson, Shirley Johnson, Bobbie (Johnny) Davis, Tina (Cedric) Wright and Derwin Johnson: two loving brothers, Walter Boyd and David Boyd: three precious sisters, Lula Ellis, Emma Boyd and Delores (Cleveland) Butler: one loving sister-in-law, Birnie Marshall and brother-in-law, Ed Coleman. He is the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Nicole Johnson, Dánza Johnson, Edward Charles Johnson, Jr., Christopher Davis, and Jonathan Davis; four great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Eddie leaves a legacy of knowing God is in Control and it is in God that we all live and move and have our being. He was once asked, what do you contribute to your longevity? He answered with no credit to himself... "You got to ask the Good Lord about that!"
