(Obituary)

In Loving Memory of Dr. Louise Pearson Johnson

December 28, 1951 – May 21, 2026

It is with deep love, sadness and gratitude for a beautiful life that we announce the passing of Dr. Louise Pearson Johnson, who departed this life on May 21, 2026, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Louise was born on December 28, 1951, in Clayton, AL to: Annie Flake Eutsy (Wilbur) and Oree Pearson Sr. Maternal grandparents Christine and Lemon Pearson also loved and cared for her, all are predeceased.

She lived a life marked by grace, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Louise was known for being impeccably dressed and carrying herself with elegance and confidence wherever she went. She had a special love for antique furniture and appreciated beauty, history, and craftsmanship in all its forms.

Louise’s personality was vibrant, energetic, cheerful, and assertive. She brought warmth and strength into every room she entered, and her presence left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Family was at the center of her life, and she cherished the time she spent with her daughter, Teil D. Johnson, her granddaughter Layla A. Al-Hasnawi, and her great-granddaughter Michaela Allen. She was proud of each of them and found great joy in celebrating their lives, sharing special moments, and creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Louise dedicated many years of service as an educator with Birmingham City Schools, where she faithfully served until retirement. Her commitment to education and lifelong learning remained central throughout her career, culminating in her earning her PhD in Education…an achievement that reflected both her discipline and her passion for helping others grow.

Her faith was deeply rooted in the Word of the Lord. Louise faithfully attended Church of the Highlands (Riverchase), where she worshipped and served in several ministries with a devoted heart. Her relationship with God sustained and strengthened her throughout her life.

Louise was previously married to William J. Johnson (Deceased) from December 1976 until June 1993 and to that union one daughter was born. She later shared many meaningful years with her life partner, Michael Smith of Jemison who remained by her side throughout her challenges. She also cherished the prior companionship of her dear friend Major for many years.

Louise leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter Teil D. Johnson; granddaughter Layla A. Al-Hasnawi; and great-granddaughter Michaela Allen. She is also lovingly remembered by her eldest daughter Aquasia U. Johnson McDowell (Willard) of Orlando; grandchildren Akira C. McDowell, William L. McDowell, and Joshua A.
