Obituary

The journey of life for Delois W. Howard began on January 16, 1934, in the year of the Lord. She was the only child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lan Bryant and Inez M. Bryant. She loved God and confessed at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Samuel Schultz at Trinity AME Zion in the early 1950s.


Delois W. Howard resided in Birmingham, Alabama. She was educated in the Birmingham City school system. She graduated from Council Elementary and attended Industrial High, now known as Parker High.


At the age of eighteen, she joined the Order of Eastern Star (OES). She was a part of the Chapter of Haygood's Choice Chapter 848, Les Bel-Air's Club, and a member of Club Excelsior. Delois Howard was a devoted wife, loving mother, and an outstanding grandmother. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends.


Delois W. Howard was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joes and Mary Ann Mike; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lane and Inez Bryant; husband, Mr. James Howard, Jr.; and son, Reverend James A. Howard.


Delois W. Howard was called to receive her crown on November 8, 2022, at 11:50 AM. She leaves to cherish in memories and legacy: her two loving daughters, Reverend JoAnn Griffin (Grady Jr.) and Janice Howard; eight grandchildren, Audwin Howard (Coretta), Anthony Howard (Teneshia), Pamela Bryant, Angela Griffin, Patrice Griffin (Toney), Jorena Davis (Calvin Jr.), Grady Griffin III (Shanrea), and Terrance Peck (Bridget); thirty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; two special nieces, Linda Ann Howard and Glenda Jean Howard; four special friends, Mrs. Magnolia Cook, Mrs. Evelyn Shorter, Mrs. Ruby Lee Bolin, and Iola Spers; and a host of other family and friends.
