Deborah L. Washington was born on April 1, 1953, to Booker T. and Ruth Washington. She departed this earthly life on September 3, 2026, at the age of 73.

Deborah was a longstanding and faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where she served her church family with love, dedication, and humility. She was the founder and president of the Adult Choir, member of the Ambitious Adults, assisted with honoring the OLF Graduates and faithfully served wherever and whenever she was needed.

She was one of five children, raised in a Christian, God-fearing atmosphere that shaped the woman she became. She received her early education at Our Lady of Fatima Elementary School, Holy Family High School, and completed her education at Miles College. Beyond her work as an Administrative Assistant with Birmingham City Schools, she was known for her infectious laughter, gentle patience and fierce loyalty. She had the ability to make everyone around her feel special and was lovingly known by many names- Debbie, Big D, Borah and “Moon Buddie” with each name reflecting the special place she held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her siblings; Darlene Marshall (Cornel Ray); Greta Chapman (Earl); and Kimberly Twymon (Lynn); and her nieces and nephew Coach Olivia Nicole Chapman, Dr. Elyse Simone Chapman, and Master Dylan Washington Twymon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Booker T. and Ruth, and her brother Larry.

Throughout her life’s journey she was blessed with a profound bond that went beyond family ties by her devoted friends; Vickie Rivers and Marlene Burnett, her lifelong confidantes and sisters of the heart. Their irreplaceable friendship was a beautiful anchor in her life, filled with shared laughter, secrets, and a love as deep as any sisterhood. She is survived by a host of relatives, friends, church family, and loved ones.

Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, Deborah’s love will continue to live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her nurturing spirit, unwavering faith, generous heart, and devotion to family and church will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

May she rest eternally in the loving arms of God.
