Deacon John
Henry Bland, Jr
April 4, 1930 – December 3, 2024
John Henry Bland, Jr. was born on April 4, 1930, to the late John Henry Bland, Sr.and Annie Mae Edward Bland.
He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church, Gary Ensley under the leadership of Reverend C. Sims. He later joined True Love Church under the leadership of Reverend Eddie J. White. He served as a Deacon, a member of the Living Legacy Seniors' Ministry, Male Chorus, and the Adult Men Sunday Bible School. He served faithfully in those ministries until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; John Henry Bland, Sr. and Annie Mae Edward Bland; his wife, Mary A. Bland; sister, Mary E. Bland Brown; brothers, Robert Bland, James Walton, Willie Walton, Corneilius Walton, and Bennie Walton.
He was employed as a cold miner for over 40 years.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Mary A. Bland for over fifty years. To this union four children were born: Phyllis, Chester, Alvin, and Darryl.
He was known for his love of fishing, hunting, and carpentry.
Left to cherish his memories: daughter, Phyllis Bland King; sons, Chester Bland, Alvin (Carolyn) Bland all of Birmingham, Alabama, Darryl Bland of Atlanta, Georgia; brother-in-law, William Bryant of Birmingham, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Vendella Adams, Lizzie Bryant of Birmingham, Alabama; host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
