CYNTHIA WILLIAMS WALTON, on March 8, 2021, in the company of her daughter Melvia and sister Melvia, while carefully attended to by a loving, dedicated team of UAB nurses. Resting on her confident and determined faith, she loved above all else her family, and teaching children to read. An extremely loyal, dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., her leadership roles included serving as president of the Birmingham Alumnae Chapter. Following her retirement from the Central Staff of Jefferson County Board of Education, she committed much of her time volunteering at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Vulcan Park. In addition, she served as a reading tutor at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, her place of worship. She was married to the late Reginald Walton, Jr. Among those cherishing her memory are: her children, Melvia and Keith; her grandchildren, Rachel, Alexander and Gabrielle; her sister and brother-in-law Melvia and Danny; her brother and sister-in-law James, Jr., and Joan Craig; devoted nephews Andre, Eric and Christopher; and dear cousin Deveta Peoples. She will be dearly missed by many other family members, sorors, colleagues and friends. Reposing 10:00 am - 1:00 pm CT, on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Smith & Gaston Funeral Services, 102 6th Avenue Southwest, Birmingham. The family will receive friends at Smith and Gaston, 102 6th Avenue Southwest, Birmingham, from 12 Noon -1:00 pm CT. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm CT on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Zion Memorial Gardens, 501 Tarrant Huffman Road, Birmingham.
