Charles Burton,
Jr.
August 3, 1930 – December 13, 2024
Obituary
Charles Burton, Jr., was born to the late Charlie and Mattie Burton on August 3, 1930, in LaFayette, Alabama. He was the oldest of four children, Reverend Ocie Burton (deceased), Minister Fannie Burton (deceased), and the Reverend Jimmy Burton.
Charles confessed Christ at an early age and united with First Baptist Church (Woodlawn) under the pastorate of the late Reverend C. E. Mardis. In his later years, he transferred his membership to Bethel Independent Methodist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Jimmy Burton. In both churches, he worshipped the Lord in spirit and in truth, in giving, and in sharing with others.
He attended Birmingham City Schools and left Parker High School during his Junior year to enlist in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. For this tour of duty, he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal. He served honorably on stateside as a medic corpsman.
His other work experiences included a stint as a worker at the A&P Warehouse Grocers in Birmingham, Alabama, and Custodial Services in both Birmingham, Alabama and Beverly, Missouri.
Charles leaves to mourn his wife, Anita; two children, Mattie Theresa Levels (Benjamin); George Albert Burton (Glenda); a brother, Reverend Jimmy L. Burton (Tywanna); seven grandchildren, thirteen great grand children, one great great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
