Catherine Moore
Banks
May 12, 1951 – March 30, 2026
Catherine Moore Banks was born on May 12, 1951, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Alfred and Fannie Moore. At an early age, she was baptized at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church (Acipco). In her youth, she sang in the Number Two Choir for several years.
Catherine was educated in the Birmingham City School System, attending Lewis Elementary School and Carver High School. After graduating, she attended Alabama A&M University, where she majored in elementary education and graduated in May 1973, becoming a certified teacher.
In the fall of 1973, Catherine began her career with the Birmingham City School System, where she faithfully served with a deep love for young children. Known to many as "Cat," she later earned her Master's degree in Education from Alabama State University. Catherine retired after 41 years of dedicated teaching but continued to serve as a teacher's aide for several more years.
Her hobbies included reading and crocheting, through which she created many beautiful items. Catherine married Frank Banks in 1991, and to this union one child was born. Catherine and Frank enjoyed traveling and attending family reunions.
Catherine was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Moore, Sr., and her mother, Fannie Lee Moore.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Frank Banks; her son, Andrew Banks (Crystal); stepchildren Carol Fisher, Frankie Buels, and Cecil Andre Banks (Josette), all of Chicago, Illinois; her brother, Alfred Moore (Mona); sisters-in-law Alberta Banks and Thelma Gibbs (Reverend Richard); brothers-in-law Reverend Samuel Banks, Sr. (Linda) and Harold Banks; uncle Anderson Moore (Dorothy) of Cleveland, Ohio; aunts Ollie B. Cheatham of Cleveland, Ohio, Regina Mitchell of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Lucy Moore of Canton, Ohio; and a host of grandkids, great grandkids, cousins, relatives, and friends.
