MR. CARL HUDSON, SR., was born on December 7, 1940, to the late James Hudson and Dora Jemison in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the fourth child and the third son of this union.

He was a man of Faith and accepted his commitment to Christ at a young age that extended throughout his life as a man ,husband, father and friend.

He received his formal education in the Birmingham City school system and graduated from Jackson-Olin High School in 1960. While there, he earned his high school diploma along with a vocational certificate in carpentry and brick masonry, skills that would serve him well throughout his life.

Upon completing his education, Mr. Hudson began working in various department stores in the Birmingham area before gaining full-time employment with Stockham Valve. His strong work ethic and craftsmanship later opened the door for him to join A.G. Gaston Enterprises. Starting as an apprentice, he rose through the ranks to become Head Maintenance Supervisor. Notably, he was personally hired by the esteemed Dr. A.G. Gaston. In this role, he was entrusted with overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of numerous facilities, including Booker T. Washington Insurance Company, Zion Memorial and New Grace Hill cemeteries, A.G. Gaston Nursing Home, the A.G. Gaston Hotel, WENN radio stations, and several other offices throughout the state.

Mr. Hudson was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Mrs. Loretta Hudson, on September 12, 1962. Their union was a beautiful testament to love, commitment, and faith, lasting more than 63 years. To this union, children were born, and he remained a devoted husband and a proud, dedicated father.

On March 28, 2026, Mr. Carl Hudson, Sr., peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at UAB Highlands Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hudson and Dora Jemison Hudson, and his siblings, James (Sonny), Carolyn, Mary Elizabeth, Samuel, Andrew, William Earl (Jig), and Emma Sue.

He leaves to cherish his precious and loving memories: his devoted wife of 63 years, Mrs. Loretta Hudson; daughters, Madeline Matthews (Calvin) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Doretha Vessel (Charles) of Virginia; sons, Carl Hudson, Jr., (Tashia) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Christopher Hudson of Texas; sisters, Robbie H. Beasley of Miami, Florida, and Patricia H. Reese of Birmingham, Alabama; sister-in-law, Mary Langham Hudson of Birmingham, Alabama; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends.
